In almost every case, surgery that is done upon the hands is a necessary procedure. Since it is hard to function without the use of your hands, this is one surgery that is important. There are numerous kinds of hand surgeries available depending upon the type of problem that you may have.

There are a number of reasons why you may need hand surgery. Some of the most common reasons include arthritis, hand trauma, infections, or severe pain. Each of these ailments requires a different type of procedure. The most common types are listed below.

Although your hands can do amazing things, trauma can occur when you overdue it. The pain and agony you feel is tendon damage. Like a rubber band, tendons stretch, but only so far. Tendon surgery is well understood, but it can take three to five weeks to recover.

If you have arthritis, you know how painful it can be. Constant pain is just horrific. This is particularly true for hand joints. Joint replacement surgery is becoming more common for fingers and hands. It is a godsend with pain relief being immediate.

Skin flap surgery is often needed for those that have been burned on the hands. This surgery is similar to skin grafting since it takes skin from other parts of the body and applies it to the hands. Most of the time, this procedure is highly effective, since the circulating blood of a patient will help the skin to heal properly.

Replantation surgery is needed when portions of the hand are missing due to an accident or birth defect. This procedure often replaces natural fingers with artificial ones that will allow a person to function normally. Though hand surgery for strictly cosmetic reasons is scarce, it does occur.

Cosmetic hand surgery is also becoming more popular these days. You might have unsightly veins or other issues you do not like. A surgeon can pursue various techniques to get rid of them. It is a specialty area, so make sure to use an experienced surgeon.

Losing the functionality of a hand would be very hard to deal with. Fortunately, you really do not have to worry about it much. Why? The medical profession has a pretty good handle on how to treat hand injuries.
