DNA testing has become something our society relies on very heavily for identification purposes. Everyone has different DNA so it is a unique way to identify an individual. It is the equivalent of a signature only in a genetic form that can’t be altered or hidden. One of the most common uses of DNA testing is to track down criminals who have left hair, skin, or semen at the scene of a crime.

If you have seen the movie Jurassic Park, you would know what we are talking about. The movie was based on the concept of DNA only. DNA allows you to find out all about your ancestors. Sounds interesting! If you too want to track your ancestry then you can go for ancestry DNA testing and it will give you many details of your ancestors!

DNA research worldwide led to the discovery of genetic markers that are used to evaluate ancestry. These markers follow three types of inheritance pattern categories. These are autosomal DNA line, the paternal DNA line and maternal DNA line. The autosomal DNA line is made of all DNA in the cells excluding the X - chromosome, Y - chromosome and mtDNA.

Today, the medical science has advanced so much that it can help you track down the genealogy of a particular family. With the help of ancestry DNA testing, you can trace your ancestors. It helps you to find out whether two people have any relation or not. It can determine whether two individuals are descendants of same ancestors or not. It can also find out if people with same surname are somehow related.

While you may wonder why ancestry is so important to some people the reality is that it does matter. It is interesting to know where your heritage lies and for some people not knowing gives them a void they really want to have filled. This is more important to them then simply fitting into society because of their race or color.

Although the ancestry DNA testing is not a new invention, it has become popular recently. The main reason is that it is now within many peoples financial reach. Also, it has become more easily available in the market making people aware about it. It plays an important role in tracking down ones roots. You can also perform the test at your own home with the help of home DNA kits.
