Recently we agreed to have our young niece Ally live with us as she settled into College away from home. This turned out to be an adventure for her and an even more interesting experience for us. What came as a surprise to us both was our lesson in Ways to Prevent and Treat Acne.
Ally is a popular student with lots of friends and an adoring boyfriend. She is studying Fashion and Design and loves clothes and cosmetics. She appears to have everything that any young 18 year old would want.
We are getting to know each other better and developing a closer relationship with each other. We want her to feel independent and happy but we have discovered that some things have need discussing from time to time. This included ways to prevent and treat acne and save the bath towels at the same time.
Her first load of bathroom washing shocked us. Each towel was marked with stains from one end to the next. We were not impressed.
When we inquired about these stains Ally clearly did not want to discuss them. She looked uncomfortable and her only response was that she used white towels at home. As I was replacing the ruined towels with the requested white, I realized the source of the problem was peroxide.
Ally’s skin care included an acne product containing peroxide. Her prolonged time in the bathroom and her exclusive use of white towels at home all became clearer. This was a way to deal with the peroxide side affect of this way to prevent and treat acne.
We were a little perplexed with the way Ally had tried to cover up her acne medication until we remembered how much effort so many adolescents make to control the acne in their lives. Just when they want to look good and be popular, they break out. Finding and using the best acne treatment was important to Ally despite the condition of our towels.
Our genes and our hormones are understood to be the greatest causes of acne. The American Academy of Dermatology research about teenage acne and young adult acne reveals that it is widespread. Around 80 percent of all young people from 11 and 30 suffer from acne at some time and are searching for ways to prevent and treat acne.
We only have white towels in our guest bathroom now and we are happy that Ally has access to accurate information about acne control. We are equally pleased to know that she has disregarded the myriad of myths that surround how to get rid of acne and focused on tried and true ways to prevent and treat acne.
We understand why Ally feels no need to discuss her acne solution with her relatives. We have no intention of raising this with her. We will just maintain the supply of white towels and continue to respect her privacy.
